“Uekawa” in Fukushima
For today’s lunch we went to an Izakaya in Fukushima called “Uekawa”.
Inconspicuously located in a narrow back alley which you would never walk into under normal circumstances, this Izakaya’s lunches have a very high reputation so I decided to join a friend of mine and check it out.
They serve 9 menus, and every one of them looks so good that we just couldn’t decide…
“Deep-fried chicken menu” (700 yen)
When we saw what it was we were startled!
It consists of 6 huge chunks of deep-fried chicken, placed next to an abundance of vegetables, and all served on a massive plate!
In addition, you have a choice between a small bowl of miso soup or pickled vegetables to accompany it, and all just for 700 yen!
All this food for 700 yen, this value is almost too good!
The impressive deep-fried chicken!
And biting into it…
Woooah, it’s sooo tasty!!
Its crispy batter is so aromatic, and the meat inside is tender, perfectly seasoned and so juicy! Delicious!
This is the menu my friend ordered, the “Tonkatsu menu” (800 yen).
It was a big chunk of Tonkatsu with a thick coating of demi-glace sauce over it prepared in a Japanese-style, and once again, the volume of food was huge!
I took a small bite, to sample it…
It was amazingly delicious!!
The Tonkasu was so soft, and the Japanese-style demi-glace sauce was really refreshing and tasty!
We went there at around 12:30 AM, and there were already 5 people waiting in line in front of the establishment. We waited for 10 minutes and were finally able to get a seat.
This is the only establishment to be found in this narrow back alley, located within a residential area, so you should be on the lookout for it if you ever pass it by!
The other menus which other customers were ordering were also massive in volume, and looked just as tasty. I really want to come back and try them out, too!
