Their hiya kake (kake udon served with cold dashi soup stock) is excellent.

Today I had lunch at an udon restaurant called ”JOUNETSU UDON SANSHU“in Toyosaki in the Kita ward of Osaka.
The splendidly refined iriko dashi (anchovy stock) ambitiously prepared by Mr. Kubo, the restaurant keeper, has an enthusiastic following, but this limited dish is only served a few times a year!
I absolutely couldn’t miss this chance, so I went to eat it right away. (^^

Spring Time Hiya Kake Set (900Yen)
Hiya kake udon and a selection of fresh spring vegetables, a reasonably priced wonderful set meal!

I started by tasting the dashi soup…

So good!!
The soup is rich with flavors of the sardines, this is an absolutely perfect iriko dashi!
Ahh, it’s been long since the last time I had this, but this truly is delicious!

Ahhh, so good!!
This tight udon noodles combine a firm body with supple elasticity!

Then I had the vegetable tempura with salt…

Ahhh, so tasty!!
The bread-crumb coating is crunchy and everything is really tasty, but the seasonal tempura is sweet and aromatic, which makes it especially delicious!

“Grilled Cheese Cutlet Curry Kamatama” (1250Yen)
(Kamatama: boiled hot udon noodles with raw egg and soy sauce.)
This curry kamatama is an absolute must-have!

You have to thoroughly mix the curry and the grilled cheese with the udon noodles…

Wow, delicious!!
The flexibility of the noodles right out of the pot is amazing, and they mix well with the flavor, the body, and the outstandingly balanced spices of the curry!

Pork cutlets, cheese, and curry… there is no doubt that this is a yummy combination(^^

I put a piece of pork cutlet on a bowl of “Small Rice Portion” (50Yen) to eat them together…

Oh, wow! So delicious!!
Of course, the match between the cutlet and the rice is way too good!

In the end, I left one bit and poured some “S-size Soup” (available for free) on it…

And oh my! The amazing taste!!
The udon noodles became even fluffier – just perfect!

Then I dumped the leftovers of the “Small Rice Portion” in the soup…

Of course this was going to be good too(^^

This is extremely satisfying, since you can enjoy many flavors and different ways to eat the same dish!
