Fukiageya in Hankyu Department Store Umeda Main Store

Using the gorgeous local chicken "Kurosatsuma dori", so excited by this masterful oyakodon (rice topped with chicken and egg), hitsumabushi (meat pieces blended with rice) and yogan-yaki (roast on a hot stone)!

For today’s lunch, I visited a restaurant serving local chicken dishes, “Fukiageya” on the 12th floor of Hankyu Department Store Umeda Main Store.
This store’s oyakodon, with its fluffy meringue on top, is delicious, innovative, and a one-of-a-kind oyakodon that you won’t find anywhere else!
I went today with a friend, so we were able to share and enjoy a variety of dishes.
“Yuki no sakurajima” (1550 yen)
Their famous oyakodon, with its pure white fluffy meringue, comes with Satsuma-jiru (soup) and pickles.

Soooo gooood!!
The fluffy texture of the meringue sets your heart at rest, and the chicken, with the egg and a flavorful stock, had just the right texture; it was almost too good!
It went fantastically with the rice, this is definitely a one-of-a-kind flavor!


In the latter half, you can enjoy a variety of flavors, adding black chilli peppers, salted kelp and spring onions.


Jidori Hitsumabushi Gozen (1750 yen)


It’s not just chicken…this masterpiece also contains minced chicken and egg yolk.


It’s a hitsumabushi, so let’s try it on its own first…


The stock has seeped thoroughly into the meat and presents a perfect, plump texture, and goes so well with the richly flavored mince and rice.


For the second bowl, let’s try with added seasonings like wasabi and spring onions.


The refreshing flavor and spiciness of the wasabi and spring onions give the flavors some unity; yet again, this is so good…


For the third bowl, we add some stock and wash it down like an ochazuke (rice with soup)…


The flavor of the stock is so elegant, I don’t know what to say!



Satsuma-age (Deep fried fishcake), egg roll, salad, dessert…


Tempted to reach for some alcoholic drinks…


Sakurajima yogan-yaki of Kurosatsuma-dori (1200 yen)
There are two varieties, thigh and breast meat!


When the meat is put on the sizzling hot Sakurajima lava plate, a delicious fragrance rises up!


Dip it in some shoyu (soy sauce) based stock, and enjoy…


The plump texture is divine, and the flavor of the meat juices is to die for!
Once again reaching for the beer here :D.

This one’s also fragrant and juicy, with a simple, sumptious taste.







There’s a lot of very attractive items for offer at lunchtime, starting with the oyakodon.
We went at an earlier time today, so we managed to get seated without waiting, but the store soon filled up, and there was a long queue outside!
Amazing how they get such a queue, even though it’s a weekday!
Think I’ll come around again at night, and this time enjoy some delicious local chicken with a nice beer.
