“Okonomiyaki Tsuruya” in Umeda

The airy yamakake (tuna with grated yam) is the speciality of this long-established Osakan okonomiyaki (savory pancake) restaurant and is a unique and superb dish.

I went for lunch today at “Okonomiyaki Tsuruya” in Umeda.
This business was established 65 years ago in Osaka as a casual fast food street restaurant and has long continued to be a favorite among Osakans.
I came here really eager to try their famous “fried Japanese yam mix” (¥1,400)!
The dish had lots of grated yam for a topping and I also added an egg (¥60).

I could immediately see how this okonomiyaki was very nice and airy just by cutting into it. (^^

Wow! So delicious!
It goes without saying that it was soft and airy, but the grated yam was all tangled and sticky too. The whole thing, with the light flavors of fish stock and soy sauce mixed in, was crazily delicious!
Also, the egg and yams on the iron plate gave off the most wonderful aroma as it was frying and as I was enjoying it.

A bottle of beer

A beer goes down well with okonomiyaki after all. (^^

Apart from okonomiyaki and yakisoba (fried soba noodles), many other dishes prepared on the hot iron plate are listed on the menu and all of them look charming.

The inside of the restaurant has an old-fashioned feel to it from the Showa period.
Open for business on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 11 am until night and serves alcohol with lunch as well!
By all means, come over, try out some things from the menu and enjoy a relaxing time!
